School Choice

School choice is an educational policy that allows parents the freedom to choose the best educational environment for their children, whether it be public, private, charter, or homeschooling. The Life and Liberty Party strongly supports school choice, recognizing that no one-size-fits-all approach can adequately serve the diverse needs of students. Studies consistently show that school choice programs lead to better outcomes for students, particularly in underserved communities.

Research from the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) shows that school choice programs increase student achievement, particularly for low-income families who otherwise would not have access to high-quality education alternatives. The study found that students participating in school choice programs had higher test scores and graduation rates compared to those in traditional public schools1.

Similarly, a study by Harvard University’s Program on Education Policy and Governance found that school choice programs, including voucher systems, not only improve academic performance but also foster competition among schools. This competition forces public schools to improve, benefiting all students2.

Another benefit of school choice is the improvement of parental satisfaction and engagement. A report from the American Federation for Children concluded that parents who have the freedom to choose their child’s school are more engaged in their child’s education and are generally more satisfied with their child’s academic progress3.

The Life and Liberty Party believes that empowering parents with the ability to choose where their children are educated creates a system of accountability and excellence. When families have options, schools are encouraged to innovate and meet the needs of students more effectively. We stand firmly behind expanding school choice programs to ensure that every child, regardless of income or location, has access to a quality education.
